Have you ever read a book and just said, WOW!? This is what I said every time I sat down with this book. I will be honest, I was a bit worried knowing it was written by not one but 2 doctors.
Past books I have read, written by doctors, were so dry and so boring, I couldn’t stay awake much less have any desire to finish the book. I can’t say that about this book. It captivated my attention from the get-go, and I didn’t want to put it down.
To say it’s a must read is an understatement for me, I want to call it a required read. This book hits home on every different angle of life you can possibly touch on: Family life, Spiritual life, Friends, Work, Volunteering, and the list goes on.
Every Situation is Touched On
In this book, the Drs. hit home on how we act in different situations. A friend calls and asks to borrow something and we let them, even though we know it will come back broken. A lonely parent calls and lays the guilt trip down on you for never calling or coming to visit with the kids. A boss catches you as you’re leaving the office and piles a stack of work for home on your plate.
We want to help, we hate to leave them in a bind, we want to do the extra work to possibly help our career. It’s all talked about in Boundaries, and I can rave on and on about it.
If any of these situations sound familiar or if you constantly think “they’ll change” please go pick up this book by clicking the link below.
Why I Highly Recommend Boundaries
1. Not only did they hit every situation, they teach you from beginning to end on what your thinking is and why, how you can stop it, how it will affect others, how to deal with the effects, and how to continue living your life so those situations don’t arise again. I never once thought about the topic of discussion and had to ask why or how because they laid it out perfectly.
2. They don’t use a lot of Dr. jargon. I recently read a book by a different author and she wrote exactly how she spoke. Every extra-large Dr. word she could use, she did, and that killed the book for me. Dr. Cloud and Dr. Townsend wrote Boundaries for the layman, and that’s exactly how it reads. Their crystal clear verbiage made this an excellent read.
3. Last but certainly not least, I loved this book because it referenced scripture, constantly. I know there are a lot of great authors out there who teach, write, and speak an outstanding message they have learned through the Scriptures, but very few of them constantly reference scriptures to back up everything they talk about. Dr. Cloud and Dr. Townsend wrote an awesome book here, and it’s all backed up with scripture after scripture.
